Crowns

Crowns are a useful restorative dentistry tool to repair a cracked or damaged tooth, either by decay or injury. They’re also sometimes called caps, because they wrap around the top of your tooth, making it stronger and securing it from further damage.

With proper care, brushing and flossing, crowns are extremely durable and keep their aesthetic appearance through the years to come. Get in Costa Rica you dental crowns!

Why Crowns?

Patients might need a dental crown for a variety of reasons, including:

  • To repair a tooth that is severely damaged and cannot be filled.
  • To improve the appearance of damaged teeth.
  • To hold a dental bridge in place.
  • To restore a broken or worn-down tooth.

Crowns are one solution to these problems, but our smile specialists will consult with you about your individual needs and help you decide on the best design for your smile.

Material of choice for crowns is usually highly aesthetic porcelain or zirconia. Our Smile Designers will decide the best option for your individual needs.

Crowns can last for many years. Maintaining good oral hygiene is important to help your dental crown last as long as possible. Our staff will instruct you on the best way to take care for your crown. It’s important that you are involved in every part of the process of getting a crown, so that you are well-informed about your dental work and how to take care of it properly.

A crown procedure usually requires two appointments.  Your first appointment will include taking several highly accurate 3D digital molds (or impressions) that will be used to create your custom crown.  A mold will also be used to create a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth until your new crown is fabricated by our dental laboratory.

While the tooth is numb, the dentist will prepare it by removing any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown.  Once these details are accomplished, your temporary crown will be placed with temporary cement and checked to ensure you are biting properly.

At a second appointment, your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate.

You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your new crown.
